Moonlight wind
Had a false start today, because the combination of wind and clearing made it feel much colder than the 35 or so the airport weather station reported. It was obviously windy, so I went out with just a wind shell over my usual winter togs (tights, shorts, dryfit turtle and t-shirt over it). I went two blocks into the teeth of the gale (37 mph), turned and came back and changed into a fleece jacket and a stocking cap. Much better.
Then went on the usual water tower route, uneventfully except that — in contrast to recent mornings — there was virtually no traffic. What a difference half an hour makes (I set out around 5:30). I did see a woman walking a dog out on 12th Avenue South, and another running in the vicinity of the water tower. If I had to guess, I'd guess she was the same person I startled a few weeks ago as I trotted out of the blowing snow in the same area.
My two-day quest for 2-cent stamps will continue today, with the reopening of the post office. I have a pack full of bills and a check for my granddaughter. I should have put two 37-centers on hers and sent it, but didn't think of it until they were all stuck. Today's the day!
The weather service sites still insist that it's 35-40 degrees out, but it sure doesn't feel like it.
