Cochrane Dam and beyond, with pictures

That was nice. I didn't have enough time to go farther (going to a movie with my daughter in a bit), so I ran the South Shore Trail from the Rainbow Overlooks to a point about halfway between Cochrane and Ryan dams, below Great Falls but above the Great Falls, which are at Ryan Dam. It was fairly uneventful, though I did get some nice pics. No eagles, no deer, but lots of scat, a bunch (technically called a murder) of crows, and the usual assortment of geese, ducks, cliff pigeons and magpies.

I passed a couple going out, but they were gone by the time I came back, and I met one guy coming back, but he didn't look as if he'd be going far (all were walking). The couple had packs that looked like they planned to walk to North Dakota, but I think they were just being prepared. They didn't seem very cheerful or friendly; about my age (old).

It's chilly — 22 last I checked — and windy, with a steady northerly wind in the 10-20 range. Had to stay fully clothed (albeit sweaty) the whole time because of the wind. I ate one thing of Gu about halfway through it.

Better go for now. Planning on a shorter one, maybe as much as 4, with C's daughter tomorrow.
