Still alive and kicking

This has been one of the most spectacular runs of weather in memory, more than a week of mostly clear skies, relatively little wind, highs in the high 70s and low 80s and lows in the high 40s and low 50s.

It was 56 when I headed out this morning, repeating the meandering route that I did last Friday (across the motorcycle field, westerly to 38th, back through Portage Meadows, through the soccer park and back on 57th and the cycle field again).

To say I felt good would be an overstatement, because I'm still stiff from the long one Sunday. But I managed it with little real difficulty. I quickened my pace across the soccer park because the mosquitoes there were thick. I went out the north gate and ran on 10th North to escape them. A guy was flying a remote-control airplane in the inner lot at the park, and some other guys were sitting in their trucks smoking, apparently awaiting their 7 a.m. start times in the grain elevator across the street.

A new phenomenon this year is people living in tents adjacent to fireworks stands, including two near my house.
