Long exploratory jaunt

Work and a Nebraska football game kept me from running Saturday, so I went a little longer on Sunday.

I wanted to see the drawn-down Missouri River from the other side, so went over the trestle and along the Cochrane road/trail. They've got it blocked, but I slipped through and saw the site, or at least the staging area for it, then went up and cross-country to the RR.

Followed that east to the ridge that takes me up to the "peak" (high point between wheat field and east side of the big coulee), which I did. Got to the peak at 29 minutes (a little faster than the over-the-top and over-the-dam route). Then went west across country to the head of the coulee that forms the reservoir, crossed it, and returned on the west side of the coulee and over the top.

A couple of observations: 1) They're adding a ton of power lines up there; I hope they take down the old ones. It's starting to look like a leafless, branchless forest. 2) I wonder what all the snow-fenced areas are? They're all over the hills north of the river, often containing small areas. 3) Lot of dirt being pushed around on the banks of the river. 4) It was a nice, typical open-winter day: 45 degrees and 45 mph wind. Sunny.

I took some pictures, but I don't think they're worth the hassle of posting. Tall man in a wheat field; lots of brown grass; couple of shots down the coulee and looking across the prairie to the Little Belts and Highwoods. Big whoop.
