Different day, same route
A layer of mist lay over the valley north of Baldy Mountain this morning, which was eerily appropriate inasmuch as, also this morning, I began listening to Brandon Sanderson's "Mistborn" series. Another beautiful morning, temp in the teens and low 20s and mostly clear.
A small drainage about a mile up the road was climbed by Nora and me about 15 years ago, and we dubbed it "Disappearing Creek." We called it that because in parts of the drainage the small creek flows nicely; in other parts it disappears entirely into the ground. We climbed to the top that way one time and found the deer antler that now is my hat-hanger in the outdoor kitchen. I used to hang a set of keys to the cabin on it as well.
I went a little farther today, to this gate. I had wondered if the vehicle tracks that make running easier on the road would go past the gate, but, alas, they don't. The gate will remain closed until spring, after elk calving season. There were a fair number of tracks of walking folk, hunters no doubt, but it's irregular footing.
I'll stick with going to the gate until next week. Then maybe I'll test going beyond. Helena tomorrow; still haven't decided whether to take running gear and trying Mount Helena. I don't think I'm in quite good enough shape for that at present, so probably not.
